FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOUNTAIN VIEW FIRE STATION NO.5's GOLDEN GLOW
Bull Stockwell Allen's design for the new fire station exceeds the City's LEED certification goal and receives LEED Gold Certification
San Francisco, CA - Bull Stockwell Allen is proud to announce the City of Mountain View's Fire Station No.5 has been awarded LEED Gold certification established by the US Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GCBI). LEED is the nation's preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
"Bull Stockwell Allen is very pleased that we were able to exceed the City's sustainable goals for their newest fire station," stated BSA's principal David Ross, "we place a priority on environmentally responsible design, it is part of every project that comes out of our office." Sustainable design features for the station include regional materials within a 500 mile radius; solar water heating panels and daylight harvesting controls; aggressive site and domestic water saving technologies; and the use of reflective colors for the roof and paving to reduce site heat gain. Additionally the design of the station achieved exemplary performance for the use of Forest Service Council certified sustainably harvested wood and for providing day-lighting and views from over 95% of regularly occupied spaces with additional high level of indoor environmental quality achieved through the use of low VOC materials and increased and monitored air circulation.
As an essential service facility, this station houses four emergency responders with three response vehicles including a long reserve ladder truck, dormitory suites, dayroom, workout room, public lobby, office, kitchen and a fruit and vegetable garden. The building's brick facade, true brick arches and tower element responds to the City and Fire Department's desire for a contemporary design evocative of traditional stations.
