The City of Mountain View's 10,000 square foot Fire Station #5 provides drive through apparatus bays for three response vehicles including a long reserve ladder truck and a hazardous materials response team. The station is an Essential Service Facility designed for full time staff with additional beds for temporary crew when needed. The use of brick with a tower element responds to the strong desire of the city and staff for a design evocative of traditional stations. The project has received LEED Gold certification and uses solar water heating and daylight harvesting controls to achieve impressive energy savings.
